Owen W That cover just screamed that I would love this album, and boy was it right. Folksy melodic black metal with a dash of atmospherics that splits the difference between Cnoc An Tursa's The Giants of Auld and Cân Bardd's The Last Rain, both very positive comparisons in my book. Even the folksy interlude is just as compelling as the main tracks, and hard feat to pull off. Favorite track: Zwischen den Jahren.

H.L. RAUHNÅCHT is a very special metal project not only because the lyrical concept is about myths of the Alps. These pagan legends are presented in a melodic black metal costume which is very colourful. Some songs are quite lively, some appear melancholic, other are majestic and all are inspiring and atmospheric. Also the frequent clean vocals besides the black metal screams contribute their share to an excellent epic atmosphere. First class! Favorite track: Unterm Gipfelthron.

BrianoblivioN What an epic journey by one of the most underrated musicians in the underground black metal scene. Even going back to Golden Dawn, every release has been a constant evolution and a style/musicianship that is never stagnant... Unterm Gipfelthron is no exception. The folk elements alone bring a sense of pride and an insurmountable amount of glory to this Alpine Black Metal masterpiece.

Rauhnåcht sneaks in late with what just might be my album of the year.

With a whisper of forgotten times, something rises in the Austrian mist. Rauhnåcht returns to the fray with his greatest work yet, “Unterm Gipfelthron”.

Pushing the boundaries of the cold black metal sound heard on previous releases, “Unterm Gipfelthron” presents a new level of depth and evolution for the band. Furious black metal riffs, screams, and blast beats collide with victorious melodies, mystic folk instrumentation, eerie synths, and otherworldly chanting to evoke forgotten times and alpine landscapes. Elements of magical dark ambient and dungeon synth bisect these pagan battle hymns, moments of calm that both precede and follow the storms to come.

This is a hidden jewel, plucked from the furthest reaches of windswept forest dreaming.

With this record, Rauhnåcht continues to codify a sound all his own, and sets a new standard for future releases to follow.
